I’ve urged membership in industry associations many times before and will likely do so many times in the future as well. Nowadays, with technology and the market place constantly evolving at a rapid rate, membership in an industry association is one of the best ways of being informed.

As was noted in the recently-released annual signmedia.ca salary survey results: “Professional associations help to connect similar businesses in the sign industry which all abide by a set code of ethics. These not-for-profit groups promote the welfare of the industry and the status of members in the community, as well as benefit the users of signs. Industry associations help members share knowledge with others by providing insight, guidelines, and, in some cases, industry best practices and standards.”

You have a selection of associations from which to choose:

  • International Sign Association (ISA)
  • Printing United Alliance
  • Sign Association of Canada (SAC)
  • Society for experimental Graphic design (SEGD)
  • Association Quebecoise de l’Industrie de l’Enseigne (AQIE)
  • Registered Graphic Designers (RGD)
  • Canadian Out-of-Home Marketing and Measurement Bureau (COMMB)
  • Digital Place-based Advertising Association (DPAA)
